The Move

Monday morning was the start of our move. The first stop was Mildred’s, our interim apartment. Merran met me there and we both loaded up our vehicles, surprisingly it all fit in the two of them; barbecue, sink and all. We traveled up to Durham and unloaded our boxes into our school apartment. It was kind of scary… it looked like we had so much stuff. When we moved last time we had tried to get rid of a lot of stuff…. but now I was thinking that we should have got a lot more. Adam met me there (after he had worked a night shift and slept 3 hours) and we went over to Stillwaters to get MORE of our belongings. Ok, now I was really starting to consider the options…. I couldn’t think of any. After that second load we left and picked up Debra from Mildred’s, Debra and Sue Tyas had been there doing a final clean up. Next was our big adventure - the mattress. We loaded up the inside of the car with our stuff from mom and dads then started on the mattress. Adam and I were pretty sure of ourselves once it was strapped on to the roof of his Stratus. Debra wasn’t - and as we found out we shouldn’t have been. As soon as we got going on the highway the whole thing started shifting back about a foot. We stopped and tried to tie it down a bit more and shut the corners of the tarp in the car doors. I suspect Adam’s fuel mileage for the trip wasn’t all that great. We slowed down and made most of the trip going 60 or 70 kph. It took about two hours to get there and Adam was getting pretty uncomfortable. He had a knot jutting into his head, the steering wheel in his lap and he had to hold onto a corner of the tarp so that it didn’t fly off. We passed a cop at one point and were sure that he would stop…. but he flew on by. We had to have been violating some sort of safety rule. But we took it slow and easy and eventually made it there. Our apartment seemed a little overwhelming, boxes EVERYWHERE! But by midnight it was starting to looking like home! We have wireless in our apartment, we are very thankful for that, it will make it very easy to communicate with friends and family.
We have started to use Skype, check it out, its free and good for keeping in contact. Our Skype user name is Norm.Debra
