Butchered by the Mad Scientist!

Hello!

Well, today when classes finished we hurried off to the lab to get some more blood drawn. Last Friday we went to get a huge panel done, all for the pregnancy. My doctor had ordered one of them to be done twice, one week apart. We get off of classes at 12, and we have work detail starting at 1:30. So, as I said we hurried to the lab. Well, we get there and instead of the two nice ladies who were there before, a MAD SCIENTIST was there… I looked at Norm and said, “I don’t want him to stick a needle into me!” Well, he was doing lots of “science projects” when we got there… so we waited a minute. Then he came over to do the deed. I put my arm up and said this is the one they took the blood out of last time, as you can see the huge bruise there…. =) So he took the needle and stuck it in REALLY deep! And guess what? He missed the vein! So he proceeded by jabbing me about six times, trying to get the vein to stay put. Well all the while I am in utter agony! I had no idea that it could hurt soooo bad. The piercing was no problem, but the butchering of my arm muscles was bad! So eventually I just said, “Hey this REALLY hurts!” So he immediately took it out and said “Oh, sorry, why didn’t you say something??” AHHH! So he poked the other arm and it worked! Thank the Lord! So when we left Norm felt sick just watching it, so he treated me to a chocolate bar and a piece of pizza! What a sweetie! So that is my mad scientist story!

Debra, my arm hurt just reading your post! Do they normally have a hard time finding your vein or was he just “learning” on you?! I feel for you! I remember having countless vials of blood drawn while pregnant! Good times! I get to take my 9 year old in tomorrow to get blood drawn. Say a prayer for us! He’s terrified and last time he practically knocked me out! I had to bear hug him to hold him still and he hit me with his head! UGH! I’m not looking forward to it.
