He Weighs How Much? at The Copeland Ramblings

On Sunday after the delivery of Canaan we were all excited and interested to see how much our little guy weighed. Right when I saw him I thought that he looked like a good sized baby, not huge though. I myself placed him on the scaled and there it was - 9 and a half pounds! Babies always lose a bit of weight during their first 24 hours and when Canaan was weighed he was only 7 pounds 12 ounces! There was no way he could have lost that much and looked as healthy as he did. We couldn’t figure it out though, we ourselves saw the readout on the scale. After some thought and investigation it was discovered that right after the birth, they weighed the placenta (we didn’t know that) and the weight of the placenta wasn’t cancelled from the scale’s computer. We brought the baby out and put him on the scale adding his weight to the placentas weight. After figuring out what the problem was we were able to subtract the placentas weight and come up with a grand total of… (drum roll please)
