Not long after Debra’s mom arrived, she tripped going down some stairs and badly injured her foot. We took her to the Durham hospital to get checked out, we were sure that it was broken! Going to the ER without OHIP is quite the ordeal, they had to make a few calls and ended up paying out of pocket with the hope of reimbursement later from their insurance company back home. The doctor there checked her ankle out, was confident that it was just a sprain or tear in the ligaments but he scheduled her for an x-ray the next morning just to be sure. Sounded like a good idea to me. They checked her out and sure enough, they said that it wasn’t broken. This was a month ago, at the start of mom’s visit and throughout the rest of her visit her ankle never really improved, it continued to swell and be very painful. She and the rest of the family left on Thursday and they immediately got her checked out back home. And the result?? Not one…. but TWO breaks in her foot!! I’m not sure what happened up here, but it’s too bad, because she went for a month without a cast or anything to help it along. We are thankful that it is finally figured out and that positive steps can be taken to help it heal. Thinking back over the last month and all that she continued to do for us, mom is really a trooper, doing all that with a broken foot!
