Keeping the Big Picture in Mind
It’s often very easy to lose sight of the big picture. I have found this to be very true here at Jungle Camp. I often focus on individual tasks: first it was house planting, then buildings, next it was move up and now it is things like chopping wood and cooking on a wood fire. But what are we really doing? Why are we up here at Jungle Camp? Jungle Camp is meant to help prepare us for living and working in a foreign country. We are learning a lot of valuable skills that will equip us for the often difficult living conditions over seas. We are learning what it is like to make due with what we have and to live without a lot of the conveniences we are used to. Even with all of the planning and preparation that went into Jungle Camp, there are a few things that we forgot to bring up, and we can’t go back for them, so we sometimes pool our resources with others or change some of our planes. Last week we had a hair cutting class, a skill that will come in handy when there isn’t a place to go when you are living in a remote setting. We are enjoying all of the lessons learned and look forward to all that we will learn later.
