This weekend marks the halfway point of our jungle camp journey! Don’t mind us if we sometimes talk about one thing a few times, we can’t go back and look at our old posts and sometimes it’s hard to remember. Some days we feel like we could stay up here forever, we enjoy this simpler approach to life, but there are other days when we are excited about coming down. The water system in my house was a lot of fun to set up; we have cold water going to the sink and to the boiler in the stove, and then the water in the stove heats up and goes to the shower and to the sink. But where does the cold water come from? We have an old huge van with a big tank in it that sits on a hill above the camp. It gravity feeds water to all the jungle camp homes. The tank in the van is huge, but still needs to be refilled twice day at least. Its amazing how much water all 11 homes go through. Today was my first turn to fill it, and also my first time out of jungle camp since we arrived here. The rules are that we can ONLY go to the shop where we fill up the tank and then quickly return. Today we all got together for a pork BBQ. But this BBQ was a lot more involved because we were given the pig and had to butcher it ourselves. I reminded myself that this is the process that always happens, but we never see, we just usually get the end product in a nice little package. It was a 300 pound pig and it was amazing how much meat we got. It was all marinated and turned out to be a great meal! Tomorrow is Canada day!! We’re having our own celebrations, some of the staff are bringing up fireworks. Hope you all enjoy your Canada Day! (or July 4th :-)

It sounds like this is a great experience. I have been through a pig butchering and I agree it is a lot of work! But amazing how much meat you get.I think it is such a great thing to remember what goes into the preperation of our foods.
