Phonetics! Phonetics!

On Tuesday we started our first day of phonetics training. So what is phonetics?

Main Entry: pho·net·ics
1 : the system of speech sounds of a language or group of languages
2 a : the study and systematic classification of the sounds made in spoken utterance b : the practical application of this science to language study

There are many sounds that we do not use in the english language and it’s great to start learning some sounds that we may encounter some day on the mission field! We have been looking at all of the parts of the speech aparatus (tongue, voice box, alveolar ridge, etc) and learning how they affect your speech and the sounds of certain letters. We are enjoying this new phase of the training and are even enjoying the extra homework that comes with it! Check out ntmc.blogspot.com to see what others in our class have to say about our new course.

A couple of days ago I received some pictures that had been taken during our mens hike in June, we had great time jumping around :o)
