This past week we’ve met each day with Lydia, our language helper, and have slowly been growing our comprehension of Russian nouns, verbs and phrases. Every few days we have what is called a ‘cultural event’ where we will all do something together, it can be anything at all! One of us will photograph the event and the next day we will learn objects and verbs from the event. This helps with vocabulary as well as learning Lydia’s culture. It also does one more thing which is the key to our CLA Practicum - it develops our relationship with Lydia. The main tenet of our ‘Culture and Language Acquisition’ program is Relationship based. Everything in our program is to point back to relationships. Each session with Lydia isn’t just drill after drill of words but it is also a time to get to know her. She loves to tell us stories of Russia and we learn a lot about her and her culture through it. Our culture event yesterday was how to make home made noodles! This is something she grew up with and continues to make for her family. It was great fun and we ended up with LOTS of noodles! We even had them for lunch afterwards.
Tomorrow I think we’ll be baking something yummy!
On this day..
- Our Furnace Is Here! (but not installed) - 2008
