We wrote last week about martial law being declared in Guinea in an attempt by the president to restore order after weeks of protest about his replacement and other issues. Martial law imposed a strict curfew in an attempt to curb the movement and activities of protesters. BBC reported last night that martial law would be terminated Friday night at midnight. This follows Guinean law which states that martial law can last no longer than 10 days. Though President Conte attempted to renew martial law he was turned down by parliament. Will the protesting resume? Probably. The protesting unions have been very determined to bring new leadership to the country and fair prices for normal commodities such as rice.
