Mail Call!
Canaan has technically been a dual citizen since his birth because he has both an American and Canadian parent but it wasn’t until today that it really felt real! We’ve already gone through all kinds of paperwork and gone on many journeys to get to where we are now. Canaan’s original Ontario birth certificate came with a spelling error. Nope, they spelled Canaan correctly but spelled Joshua as Joshue. So it took a few months of phone calls and waiting before we were able to get that corrected. We and the Kanes then scrambled for a couple of days trying to gather together all of the documents necessary to get Canaan and Gwen their American citizenship. We made the trip and a few weeks later Canaan received his first passport – an American one! A couple of weeks ago we made a trip to Kitchener to get my passport renewed and Canaan’s first (Canadian) passport. They were much quicker than we expected and today it arrived! We are very excited to have in our hands the fruits of our labour. We can now get busy with our visa applications and further planning for our trip to Guinea.
