Five Days in Conakry

Our time here in Conakry stands in stark contrast to our time up country.  Before coming to Conakry we visited four different villages that speak four different languages and have distinct cultures.  Most of the villages we visited were pretty relaxed which makes the hustle and bustle of Conakry jump out at us that much more.  It’s basically impossible to get pictures or video in Conakry though we may be able to get a few shots from a vehicle.  Although it is not illegal, the military doesn’t like it and would give you a real hard time about it.  There are police and military everywhere and they will randomly stop vehicles and question the travellers inside.

The Duecks and Nicholsons have been awesome hosts and have taken us all over the city showing us our future home.  I am continually impressed at the work of these two families and the role they have in keeping the missionaries in the villages, allowing them to concentrate on learning culture and language and eventually sharing the Gospel.  The city of Conakry continues to amaze me, the streets crawl with a seemingly impenetrable, tangled web of people and vehicles.  The markets form a deep maze that it would seem easy to get lost in.

We have a slow internet connection but we hope to be able to put up small updates before we come home, unfortunately we won’t be able to put pictures up in our albums at least until we get to New York.

My head is filled with all that I want to write about but I will do so when I have more time to think through all that we have experienced.  We leave for home next Tuesday and should arrive home sometime Thursday night.  Thanks again for all of your prayers and encouragement.  Thanks also for being a part of how God is reaching the people of Guinea, West Africa.
