English Hour

The MartinsOur language learning journey has been fun at times and difficult at times. This morning we went to church, a good time to get to know people but we don’t know near enough to understand much of the sermon. One highlight this morning was a guest band that played a song in English, it was fun to be able to sing in our own language. We also had Bill & Kathy Martin, a couple in my french class, over for dinner tonight. I admit, we spoke in English, but we have to have a break sometimes! Besides, it’s Sunday and tomorrow I’ll be starting a new week of French learning. The Martins are heading to Senegal and it was fun to share stories about our two countries of service. Senegal and Guinea neighbour each other but from what we’ve heard are quite different. Bill and Kathy have four children and it was interesting to hear of some of the adventures they’ve had here in Québec that we haven’t had to experience; getting their kids enrolled into school for example. We’ve been here for almost a month now, and while at times it seems like a slow progression it’s neat to see how much more I understand and communicate than I could 30 days ago.

On this day..
