Yesterday afternoon we spent some time visiting a couple of the nurseries that we had contacted. Before we set out we prayed that God would make it obvious to us if a place was or wasn’t right for Canaan. It was a tough afternoon for Debra, we’ve never put him in daycare for an entire day before, just the mornings while were in school with NTMC. The thought of leaving him for two days a week has been weighing heavily on her mind. I’ve been praying for her a lot, I feel sad about it too, but I think as a man I just don’t understand exactly how hard it is for a mother. Anyways, we ended up visiting a daycare that was about 20 mins away, pretty far, but we were getting desperate. The woman running the daycare spoke English which was a bonus. Normally we’d love the immersion aspect of dealing with a francophone but when it comes to Canaan’s care we just don’t have enough of the language down to be able to communicate things like that. It was very professional, the woman running it had a degree in early childhood education and had put a lot of time and energy into her nursery, you could tell she was doing what she loved to do.
After leaving the nursery we discussed it as an option and both felt like it was the kind of place we’d be comfortable leaving Canaan for two days each week, we know he’d get the attention and care he needs. So, we’re very excited to have that taken care of, we can now get Debra started with her tutoring! It’s an expensive endeavour, we’ll spend about $200 / week on the tutor and child care but we are confident that the Lord will supply those needs and it is crucial that Debra starts her lessons. It’s awesome to know that the Lord is directing and taking care of everything! Debra will begin her lessons October 8th because this week we have lots of guests headed our way!
The Kanes are coming on Tuesday through Thursday, my mom arrives Wednesday and Dad arrives Friday! Fun! We’re excited to have so many friends and family coming, it will be very refreshing to hang out and spend time with them all.
Thanks so much for your prayers as we were searching for a nursery, continue to pray as we prepare to start Debra’s tutoring and have Canaan begin at the nursery.

i’m glad that you found someone that enjoys the job…it looks like the lady really has her place set up for the little ones. So organized and structured but kids need that. Looks like there are alot of toys that Canaan will enjoy! Did you get a good price for daycare?
Praying for you neighbors! Sure miss smelling those burgers out back. We know the Lord will provide for you and will be excited to hear how He has done it. Give each other some hugs from the Shafer family (besides your own of course).
He’s coming soon!

Hi Jennifer! yeah, we really think that she cares about what she does and loves kids. The price wasn’t that great, but the problem is that childcare is subsidized in Quebec (a good thing) but those places usually have a 12 - 18 month waiting list. They only cost $7 per day. The rest of them are usually 20 -25 dollars per day. It’s definitely worth the money though, it was much better than some of the other places we looked at.
Hi guys! I am so glad you found a day care you feel comfortable with. We have had that same struggle here and I can’t imagine the challenge of a language barrier. I want to really encourage you in this step!! Joey has been in day care 2 days a week for a few months–he really loves it. He enjoys being around the other kids and playing with different toys. Joey has learned so many new things there and new words–it’s amazing!! I will look forward to hearing how his first few days go. Just a little piece of advice for Debra–when you drop him off–don’t make it a big deal–kiss and “see ya later” is all he needs. The longer it takes for you to say good bye the more he thinks “is she ever going to come back”. SO make it no big deal. :) We will pray for you during this transition.
We think about you often. Thanks for keeping Nick in your prayers!
With Love,
