Montmorency Falls et l’Île d’Orléans

It’s been quite a few years since my last field trip. How long? It may have been an 11th grade trip to the Ontario Science Centre. But, my field trip deprivation came to an end this past Friday when I went to Montmorency Falls and l’île d’Orléans (Orelans Island) with my classmates. Debra, Canaan and my mom came with me, it was a lot of fun.

Montmorency falls is located at the mouth of Montmorency river that flows into the St.Lawrence river. It is 272 ft. tall, the tallest in Quebec and almost 100 ft. taller than Niagara Falls (though with much less waterflow obviously). The falls were beautiful and I got to walk a trail that goes over the falls and then down a staircase that clings to the cliff face.

After the falls we drove across a long bridge to l’île d’Orléans, an Island in the St.Lawrence river that is about 32 kms long and only 8 wide. The island is a historical district and is home to several tiny communities made up primarily of orchards and farms. It’s a beautiful scenic area where we spent an hour or so picking apples for an apple pie (which Debra made today… MMMMMM!).

It was a welcome change of pace from sitting in the classroom, a great chance to get out and practice our french!

Those pictures triggered a memory. I had a friend go through the same French program back 10 years ago or so and he wrote me about this field trip he got to take going to some island and checking out some apple orchard. Funny.
