I suddenly realized this morning that my first semester of language study is drawing to a close with only two weeks to go! It caught me by surprise and I was suddenly excited and scared at the same time. Lots of questions flooded my mind like, ‘have I learned as much French as needed to so far?’ I was excited though to think that we are nearly finished with the first half of our time here in Québec (we do have a third semester next May but it is only 4 weeks long). Three months ago I couldn’t do more than count and say hello but now I can communicate, ask questions, understand conversation, I am excited to see where we will be at as next semester progresses. But before I get ahead of myself I have plenty to do before finishing this semester. Next week I’m doing a 15 minute presentation in French in front of the class about Conakry and in the week following are my final exams! I’m excited to have some time off and absorb what I’ve been shoveling into my head. Every day I feel the need to just spend time studying what we already went over in class but its almost always impossible because of the continual new content.
As far as an update on the car goes, we took it to the mechanic and it didn’t have any problems while he test drove it (of course) and so he told us just to add some Lucas Transmission Fix to the transmission and come back if it has more issues. Two days later and it seems to be doing alright, it’s a little nerve wracking not having found an actual problem that could be fixed but we are nevertheless thankful for our running vehicle.
Winter is in full swing and Canaan is loving it. He used to be terrified of the snow but is now enjoying his time outdoors. We can’t wait to take him to California and show our family and friends how much he has grown and all the new skills he’s developed. We’re on our way!
