Last night around 9pm we arrived home after a long drive across Ontario and Québec. We awoke yesterday to an unbelievably windy day. Apparently the entire province of Ontario was under severe wind warnings along with parts of Québec. We drove to Brampton to pick up our rental car where it almost seemed like a warzone in the parking lot. Grocery carts were roaring across the parking lot, smashing into any vehicles in their way. My rental agreement forms were whisked out of my hands and as I chased them my hat blew off. I quickly decided that I’d rather lose the rental forms than my hat and veered left to track it down. As we drove along the freeway it was funny to watch other cars as everyone’s vehicles were pushed back and forth by the wind. Our rental car was brand new and so we were a little nervous as we parked for lunch and watched as all of the parking lot’s garbage cans (which were 55 gallon metal drums) rolled around. One portion of our drive home was hit with 133km/hr winds, the highest recorded that day! We made it safe and sound and enjoyed a wonderful night of sleep in our own beds. This morning we woke up to take our rental car back only to find that the battery of our own car was completely dead! We had taken one of the terminals off while we were gone so that this wouldn’t happen but it apparently didn’t help. Debra left anyways to take the rental back and I plugged in our portable battery jumper. Our plan was for it to charge for a little while and then I’d jump the car and go pick Debra up. I let the power pack charge for a while and tried to jump the Neon - nothing. I called Debra to let her know and she decided to walk home. Luckily we live about five kms away from the airport but that is still a long walk on a cold windy day!
Well, after all of that we are finally settling in at home and preparing ourselves to continue our french studies. I start classes on Monday where I will receive my new class placement and schedule. Thanks for your continued prayers and support!

Dear Norm and Debra,
From illness to travel to family to drive to Quebec to wild winds to dead battery, challenges on every front. Perhaps the Lord will use these events in some unique way when you are living in hot and humid Guinea and you’ll look back on this time and events and say, Wow! just as Joseph did.
Many blessings upon you in the New Year!
Love,
Kathy, Alan, Katie and Alyssa
