Three years ago today we started sharing our adventures and travels with anybody willing to listen through our blog. The blog has changed a lot over the three years since it’s inception but then, so have we.
Three years ago we lived on a small farm in Southern Ontario, newly married and with plans to continue our missionary training and someday head overseas, though at the time we had no idea where to. For some reason I can no longer remember the first post wasn’t a welcome, or a description of us I simply started to talk about our comings and goings. Six months later we found out that we were expecting and the blog became a wonderful platform for sharing the ups and downs of a pregnancy.
As missionaries we are supported solely by gifts from our supporters and churches. Communication with supporters is an important part of the life of a missionary but it can be difficult. We found that the blog was a perfect way to keep in close contact with our friends, family and supporters as well as being a way for others to get to know us better. As we progressed through our two years of training at Durham we shared about classes such as phonetics, jungle camp, PTC, health and wellness, tech tips and much more.
Of course there were plenty of posts about Canaan, from his birth until now, and I’m sure that will continue. All of his firsts were well documented: crawling, teeth, steps, words and of course cuts, bumps and bruises.
Over the last year I’ve begun to enjoy video editing. We participated in video bloging week and a video presentation in Michigan. It’s a lot of fun and when ever we get the opportunity we add to our collection.
One year ago we switched from Blogger to Wordpress which enabled us to host our own files and be a bit more creative with site design. Debra designed the current header with scrapbooking supplies and it was unveiled for our blogs second birthday. We are looking at new designs now and thinking through some ideas. Let us know if you have any suggestions or thoughts!
We love your comments, we appreciate all the kind words, they motivate us to keep writing and sharing our lives. It is a great encouragement to hear your thoughts. We look forward to many more years of blogging and hope that you will continue to follow us as we journey to Guinea!
