It’s getting close to Canaan’s second birthday (wow!) and we decided it was time to get him his very own potty. He’s quite familiar with ours, every time he sees it he says ‘yuck!’ all though that doesn’t seem to stop him from occasionally trying to put something down it. He often wants to flush the toilet though the handle is to difficult for him to push on his own (thank goodness). The new potty is sitting in the bathroom and we’re going to start off slowly. Right now we just want him to get used to seeing it and we have him sit on it as well. Thankfully Canaan does really well trying something new when he is praised. He gets a real kick out of mommy and daddy cheering for him. Hopefully this will help us out on the potty! Anyone have any interesting stories to share?

Lock up your potty! LOL.
Caleb learned to flush the big potty and we have had to take the toilet apart SEVEN times and counting.
He loves to put things down it. As far as his own little potty, he likes to sit his E.T. doll on it and tell E.T. to go potty but so far we have yet to have a real success on it. I know it will come. :)
A funny tip…
I have not potty trained my own yet (my baby boy is not even born yet), but I helped potty train a couple little boys in my parents home growing up. One great tip my mom taught me in regards to helping these little guys learn to “aim” properly: Throw a couple pieces of Cheerios cereal or something else that will float in the toilet bowl that he can aim at…and make sure he stands on a little step stool or something. Little boys get a kick out of actually hitting it, and trying to make it sink. =) Have fun, and remember to keep a sense of humor. =)
Reading the other comment, I was remembering how Maria used to put her bunny stuffed animal on the pot so he could go potty too. However, he never seemed to go. So one day we poured a little water in while Maria was away and bunny was left sitting on the pot. You should have seen the look on her face when she came back and saw that bunny had used the potty. Not sure if that helped with her potty training at all, but it was fun.
No helpful tips here… all the boys in our family came potty trained!
Good luck! I just hope if I have cheerios on my kitchen floor he knows not to practice on them!
Maybe colored goldfish!
I like the whole aiming idea!
haha, thanks for the tips and stories everyone. We’ll try to keep the cheerios off of your floor mom. :o)
Honestly, it doesn’t seem to matter that I taught mine to aim. As they get a little older, it seems they’ve gotten lazy and don’t even try to aim anymore! UGH! Good luck, he may be VERY easy to potty train. I’ve found that I’ve had way more luck when it is partly their idea…..
