In January of 2006 Debra received her Canadian permanent residency, we were excited then starting thinking about our ultimate goal of citizenship. Citizenship requires three years of residency before application and yesterday was FINALLY the day. Some of you might be thinking in your head, ‘hasn’t Debra lived in Canada for 4 years?’ Yep, that’s true. Unfortunately, time before her acceptance as a permanent resident only counted as half time. The application was simple, all the tough questions were asked in the permanent residency application. We sealed the envelope and dropped it in a nearby mailbox. It felt great to get that off our shoulders!
Well, it won’t be long before we’re all Canadians! Soon I’ll be the only person in the family without dual citizenship.
