Before we were even expecting Canaan, his name was chosen so we really never had to search and think about names. Until now! This time we have no idea what to name the baby. We had decided to wait until the ultrasound to even begin so that we would only have one gender to focus on. Since this past Monday we’ve been stumped! We keep thinking of interesting girl names but that doesn’t help us much!
A couple of years ago we asked you for ideas on naming our fish and we were surprised by nearly 30 submitted names! We’re hoping that you can help us out again! If you have any boy name ideas, let us know in the comments! We are looking for something unique, but not really strange. Granted, it is much easier to come up with silly names for a fish, but we would still appreciate any ideas!
On this day..

I like Aaron. I think it goes well with Canaan. :)
how about Ezekiel, and maybe “Zeke” for short.. i think it’s a strong, masculine, uncommon name:)
We have to pick two names out and we are in the same boat have a girl name but struggling on a boys name. We have lots of aviation boys name but for some reason Ace wants a certain Bible name. I am not too pleased because most homeschool families name their boys with Bible names and their girls with fun names. I really don’t want to be typical. I just said to Ace if your going to pick out a Bible name make it unique because when we get to Heaven and the name Matthew is called how many people are going to turn their heads?
So whats our suggestion? Do you want a Bible Name?
We would really like a unique name… Canaan is so rare… we would like to match this one with a rare name, too. Bible names are great, so are location names, since Canaan’s is the Promised Land! Really any suggestions are welcome! =)
“Arah” is a pretty unique yet simple name mentioned a couple of places in the Bible.
Hi! You don’t know me, but I sometimes read your blog through Jen Heemskerk’s blog! Congratulations on expecting your second little boy! What a blessing! As a mother of two boys, 22 months apart, I can tell you that your days will be full and exciting! Having two boys is crazy, but so much fun!
On to the names…I absolutely love the name Canaan. We have two boys with unique names, as well - Judah and Asher. Judah means “praise” and Asher means “blessed/happy.” I think that both of those would go well with Canaan =). I also really like the names Zion (”a sign/raised up/highest point “) and Joash (”whom Jehovah bestowed.”)
I can’t wait to learn what you name the baby. I hope you don’t mind that I stalk your blog!

I know what you mean about unique names. I wanted to name Jillian Havilah so bad but Mike just couldn’t get into it. I have to laugh at the commenter that said homeschool families give their boys bible names and their girls fun names. We totally did that but not intentionally! LOL.
Tobias (Toby for short)
Gideon
Simeon
Ittai… don’t really lik it but I like heart of this man….
2 Samuel 15:21
But Ittai replied to the king, “As surely as the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king may be, whether it means life or death, there will your servant be.”
That is the heart of a true servant.
Maybe David Ittai Copeland. I won’t be holding breath.
Ok, we’re probrobly never going to have a boy and so here are the names I like:
Seth Michael (Michael being my middle name and my dad’s middle name
I also like,
Tucker Noah A LOT
other then that your on your own…..
Love ya,

I love the name Ephraim! I would have named one of my boys that but Jed doesnt like it at all. I also like the name Lathan but again Jed is not a fan. We’re still hunting for a name we can both agree on, Jed likes common, traditional names while I like unique names so it makes it difficult. It may come down to the wire for us. :) I hope you find one you like soon!
Laine
Gosh, I’m almost all boy named out here! LOL I did really like the name Tarek with one of my pregnancies…..
Hi, I’ll come out of lurkerdom for this one too. :) We’re currently students at NTMC.
The first name that popped into my head was Levi. I also thought of Zion (saw that someone else did too) and Petra.
-Valerie
loving the suggestions everyone! Thanks for coming out of lurkerdom to share your ideas Valerie
i keep thinking that levi would be a good name… i’ll think some more on the road this week.. and let you know :)
Love love love Harrison John. That was to be our 5th babies name, but we stopped after baby 4…:)
i like caleb too
josiah james
Hudson
I have to add a vote for Levi! it’s a great name! but I really liked Asher - someone else mentioned. Unique with a great meaning.
Just forgot to say who the last post was from. Hoipe you have a great trip!
Hey Norm and Debra! It’s fun to see all the name suggestions. We like Simeon and Gideon.
We miss you guys!
Jacob
lol Jacob it the #1 most popular baby boy name in the states this year!
I had a friend whose husband’s name was Israel.
Ok, I found the right place to leave a baby name! =) Titus is a name I really liked when pregnant with Jesse, and I would call him Ti for short. But (like Lisa wanting Jillian) my husband couldn’t be convinced. I still like it. Titus was the recipient of the book of Titus, and Paul’s representative to the church of Corinth (2 Cor.7:6,7,13-14; 8:6)
Wow, thanks for all the suggestions everyone!! Amazing! We are still thinking and mulling it over, we’ll post as soon as we make a decisions. If it is even possible that there are more people out there with suggestions, keep ‘em coming!
What about Amos?
