On Monday morning we woke up at the nasty hour of 2am to get ready to leave for the airport. We had gone to bed only two and a half hours previously and it felt like I hadn’t slept at all. We had an hours drive to the airport during which I thought Canaan would go back to sleep but he never did! Our first flight was from LA to Houston and once again Canaan didn’t sleep! Despite that, he was a very good boy and played with his cars. We had a layover in Houston for a couple hours (where we bought some gross pizza) and then boarded for Chicago. This was one of the best flights we’ve had with Canaan, he fell asleep before we even took off! He slept for close to two hours and then was content to just sit there until we landed. Now I had the fun job of carrying all three of our large bags outside to find our that was to drive us to the airport. Debra’s mom had arranged a very nice car to come pick us up. It took 45 minutes to get from O’Hare to the train station because of rush hour traffic but we made it with plenty of time. This was only my second train ride, and over all I like riding trains, but train stations are the worst! Or at least Union Station in Chicago is. We were stuck in a really hot, crowded room with hundreds of angry and irritated travellers. We finally boarded the train and found some seats. We were expecting the train ride to be the most relaxing part of our travels that day but it really wasn’t. Deb’s mom had bought us business class tickets which was really nice, but when we got on, the only two remaining seats were at the front row which meant there were no trays. Now, I know, that may not seem like a big deal, but it is amazing how useful those seat trays are when you have a kid! We got through it of course and arrived in Jackson, MI around midnight. It was a LONG day of travelling and Canaan slept till almost 2 the next afternoon, it will take him a couple days to get adjusted to the time. We spent yesterday here in Michigan with our good friends Matt and Jazzy Bennett and in a couple hours from now we will be leaving for home! It’s about a six hour drive which by now seems like hardly anything. The picture above is of Canaan enjoying the scenery out the train window - so many fun things to see!
On this day..
