God’s Design
Bar none, Canaan’s most commented on feature is his eyes. Very rarely can we get through a store without someone mentioning it and ‘what beautiful blue eyes!’ was one of the first phrases we learned in Québec. Debra has hazel eyes and I have brown eyes which always catches people’s interest when they see Canaan’s icy blue eyes. There are blue eyes in both sides of the family, so Canaan’s blue eyes weren’t a complete shocker but we were curious, just how probable were his blue eyes? And what are the likelihood of our next baby having blue eyes, or brown eyes, or green eyes? Debra found a calculator of sorts that will give you the odds of your children having each eye color. You enter your eye color as well as the eye colour of various family members and you’ll get a good picture of the odds.
It is fun to see the odds but even better to know that God designed our children for us! God arranged the genetic odds so that Canaan would get his blue eyes. The more I learn about our world the more in awe I am of God and His power.
Anyways, here is the link to the generator and also the picture of our results! Notice that the chance of us having a child with blue eyes is 13%! We’re excited to see our new baby and the features that God has given him.

God is Awesome! But I don’t think He will mind if I keep telling eveyone Canaan gets his blue eyes from his grandpa!
Jeff has blue eyes, mine are brown. I was hoping that atleast one of our kids would have blues eyes like their daddy but that brown gene was just too dominant! LOL God is sure amazing! We really have no idea!
Hey – I did the eye thing and Matthew only had a 15% chance of getting green eyes – which he did! (Well, mostly green sometimes they look kinda hazel…) That is just too cool. Maybe # 2 will have blue like his daddy.
Genetics are a crazy thing. We always say that our family is a genetic anomaly. I have red hair and blue eyes and Mike has brown hair and hazel eyes. We have 6 kids and this is how it goes…

I never knew amber was a real eye color but according to wikipedia it is! We like to think God is having a fun time creating our family, it’s like a crazy painting.
