Bike to Africa Wrap-Up

Our ‘Bike to Africa’ event two days ago was a great success and a lot of fun!  It was a long hard day for Ken and Brendan but they finished all 200kms to raise money for our shipment to Guinea next spring.  The total right now is $1587.50 which we will save until we pack up and ship.  We had two live interviews, one at the first rest stop and another at the end, which were great fun!  We had a good number of people watching at both interviews and it was a fun question and answer time.  As I wrote to the sponsors last night, Ken and Brendan reminded me of Hebrews 12:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith, Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
Ken and Brendan took very little with them on their journey, knowing the importance of shedding everything that slowed them down.  They kept their eyes on their goal of 200kms, it was their focus throughout the day just as we are to keep Christ our focus throughout the race that we are running.  Your donations will help ship our belongings to Guinea next spring.  I pray that your gifts, and Ken and Brendan’s physical efforts will be used of God to someday bring a Guinean man or woman from darkness into light.

Here is a  video highlighting a few points along their journey:

Great video, Norm and the bike ride looked like it was pretty tough. Norm, to ease your guilt you could’ve reached out the window and wiped lotion on their butts while they were still biking like they do in the Tour de France!

awesome! very cool idea to do that. our own container thankfully was paid for by the Organization to make the trek to africa. I once road 120 km in one day from Canmore in the mountains to calgary, alberta and was soooo sore for a few days after. my suggestion was not to get off the bike until the very end or it hurts more. keep truckin!
Hey - can you tell me which group/store/business you got the tshirts done through?

    Chantelle in Niger

Hey Chantelle, actually I made the shirts myself. I bought a couple white shirts from Walmart ($7 each) and then a pack of iron on transfers ($10 for 6 sheets). I have used cafepress.com before if you want something made and shipped for you.
