Canaan & Emmaus (and other news)
It’s been a busy week and a half since Emmaus arrived. Once again, we thank you for your prayers as we stayed in the Owen Sound hospital getting light treatment for Emmaus. This past Wednesday we were sad to see Kathleen head home. Kathleen was here for almost a month, we miss her a lot! Canaan and I took her down to the airport in Buffalo and said goodbye. Canaan still asks where she is and then says that he wants to go to the airport to get her. We had a midwife visit last friday and Emmaus is already 9 pounds 8 ounces! He’s gained 7 ounces since birth, it takes most babies 2 weeks or more to even get back to their original birth weight. Obviously he’s feeding quite well! The nights have been alright. We’re tired but it’s nothing out of the ordinary I guess. We just keep talking about how thankful we are to have heat right now! It’d be frigid for the poor little guy!

After the midwife appointment on Friday we went down to Kitchener for Deb’s citizenship test! She was obviously a little nervous but she felt prepared. And it turns out she was! She got 100% on the test and will be sworn in as a Canadian citizen sometime in January. We’ve been working on this for well over four years and it feels SO good to have all of the work over with. I’m really proud of her, she put a lot of hard work into getting ready for the test.

Canaan is doing so well with Emmaus. He absolutely loves him and hasn’t even seemed jealous at all. He has been a lot more huggy lately and tells us hundreds of times a day that he loves us, it seems to be his way of dealing with a new sibling. Canaan enjoys holding Emmaus and often asks if Emmaus can sleep with him.

Emmaus’ skin is looking much better these days as well. His bruising is almost all gone along with the jaundice. I know we’re biased but he just gets cuter by the day!
One prayer request we have is in regards to his paperwork. We plan on heading down to California in January but a lot has to happen before then. We need to register his birth, apply for a birth certificate and SIN card (like the US SSN card) and then his US and Canadian passports. We’ve already submitted the registration for his birth and so now we just have to wait for that to process.
Well, there is our smattering of news! Thanks for everyone’s notes of encouragement and your prayers!

He really IS getting cuter by the day! What a lil chunky monkey! Congrats Debra on your citizenship test! That’s awesome! I love the last picture of Canaan. His eyes are definitely one of his most prominent features!
Emmaus is looking good. It seems to be a trend for the new ones to quickly get back to their birth weight. Teresa was back to it in a few days of her birth. And at a month old now, she’s over 2 lbs heavier than when she was born. Anyways, sounds like you already started the paperwork process for Emmaus, but I wanted to give you this link: http://www.serviceontario.ca/newborn That’s where I applied for all of Teresa’s stuff…also used it when Adam was born. I’ve already received the birth certificate. The hospital told me about this site each time and it’s worked well. I’ll be praying all goes well… we had the pressure of time when Maria was born and we were getting ready to go overseas.
Your kid is really adorable. I cant imagine now what my baby will look like. I hope it will be as cute as your baby. Im going to be a mom soon so i was looking for more advice regarding on how to take care when it comes to babies.
