Almost a month
As we approach the end of our first month in Guinea it really is amazing how fast time has flown! A couple of days ago we took a five hour trip to our mission headquarters. It’s been a great time to rest and get to know some of our co-workers. Yesterday we took a trip into the nearest town and took a tour of a museum. I use the term ‘museum’ lightly. It was very interesting but it was very run down. Our guide gave us a tour in French of course and so it was yet another good language exercise.
This coming week we will begin our French tutoring sessions. While we have been able to practice French since our first day here, we are now going to begin concentrated classes in French to complement our daily activities that are in French. I will need to get in at minimum 8 hours a day of study, which can include cultural activities. Debra will have a minimum of four hours to accomplish, as a mother she does not have the same requirements put on her. Nevertheless, we do need to find someone to watch the kids while Debra and I are in French sessions together. That is a definite prayer request, we pray that God will provide a women who will take good care of the children while we are busy.
We are seeking out options for internet at the house. Right now we are using a USB modem that picks up a cellular data network. It is SOOOO slow! Normally only a quarter or less of dial up speed. We ordered a better USB modem with an antenna that should help us. We’ll have to wait a month or two though for it to arrive.
Anyways, we will try go get into a more consistent groove when it comes to posting on our blog. It’s hard to get motived to post when it takes 10 minutes or more to load a page :)
