17 days, Fact #6 and Our Anniversary Trip!

Wow! Time is flying by!!! 17 days! That is not much left! Today Norm and I are really looking at our schedule and trying to make sure we get everything in that needs to be done in the next 17 days. We really want to make sure we can get everything done in a timely manner instead of running around like crazies the last few days! =) We have lots of things to do like: shopping for supplies, organizing the kids toys/clothes, thank you notes to write, newsletters to send out, a family wedding this weekend, immunizations, and a ton more! We are also looking into the idea of having a Coffee Time gathering at our church sometime in the week before we leave. This would be so that people can come see us and we can answer any questions that you all may have and a nice time to just spend time together.  (Please try to make it to the end of the post… the Senegal fact is PRETTY AWESOME!)

This last weekend Norm and I went up to Palo Alto, Ca for our 6th anniversary.  We had an amazing time. We drove up the coast on the Pacific Coast Highway and drove along side of the ocean and Big Sur! Big Sur is a sparsely populated region of the central California coast where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. It is so beautiful!

We took our time and stopped a few times to take pictures and we also stopped to check out the Elephant Seals! They were so cool!

We got to the hotel in the evening and then we walked to Downtown Palo Alto which was just behind the hotel. We did a little geocaching and went to dinner. We also walked by the Apple store, which had a bunch of news stations and people there, because the next morning was going to be the release the Apple ipad. While we were walking along Norm also spotted a couple of writers for a website that he closely follows! Pretty much like seeing celebrities! =)

The next day we drove up into the mountains to Big Basin Redwood Park. If you have never had the privilege of going and seeing the big Redwoods in person… then do it! Do it as soon as possible! It is so amazing to see these majestic trees that God has made!

We spent most of the day there going through some trails and checking out some of the biggest trees in the area. We also did some geocaching! =) We found our 100th cache that day, which was the actual day of our anniversary.

On our way home from the park we stopped off at a vista point to check out the view.

We were pretty tired when we got back to the hotel! It was such a fun day! The next day we had planned to do some local geocaching. We got out and were able to do one before the rain started in. It was just too rainy to keep caching. So we headed to lunch and took our time, then we headed to a movie theater and watched a movie. That was so fun. We really enjoyed being able to just do whatever we wanted! No need to check everyones schedules… just have fun! After the movie we had a light dinner, right across the street from the Apple Headquarters. We drove by but we planned on coming back the next day to check it out when it was open.

When we got back to the hotel we just relaxed and we watched an episode of the Discovery HD’s Life. Wow! How beautiful is this world that God created! =)

The next morning we checked out of our hotel and then headed to the Facebook Headquarters. It was kind of a bummer because they were a private company, thus we couldn’t go any farther than the reception desk! But it was still cool!

Next we headed to the Googleplex!! (Google Headquarters) This was pretty spectacular. They had so many buildings and in each parking lot they had basketball hoops and they also had a few sand volleyball nets up. They also had a ton of bikes that were all over the place that the employees could use to get around. They had a lot of property and it was all pretty neat to see. But again it was a closed campus, so we just walked around and took it in!

Next we headed back to the Apple Headquarters! This was for sure our favourite. They had a gift shop and welcomed visitors. Pretty smart on there behalf! We went into the gift shop and bought the kids each a shirt and some crayons. There were probably at least 10 city blocks of Apple buildings. It was like their own little city. All in all we really enjoyed our geekness! =)

Now for SENEGAL FACT #6

This is shaping up to be a very very long post! Thank you for sticking it out this long!  Today I am not going to a fact about the country…. I am going to show you the picture of our apartment! We were sent two pictures. They are both from a West African camera phone… so they are not very good quality… but they are all we have for now! =) We found out that we will be living in a 3 bedroom apartment on the 4th floor. We will be living in Dakar, in the neighborhood of Parcelles Assaisines Unité 13. We will be about one mile from our church of 40 people and our host family lives RIGHT NEXT to us! We will both be on the fourth floor. Our area of Dakar is basically one big sand pit! So maybe its a good thing we live so high… less sand??  So… here they are:

What do you think? We are so excited to get more pictures… these just wet the appetite! =) Thanks for sticking with it and reading the whole post! =) We covet your prayers in our last two weeks of preparations! Thanks!

On this day..
