A year ago today…
It was late in the evening, April 25th 2010, that we arrived in Dakar Senegal. I remember sitting in the hallway of our new apartment for most of the night with a jet-lagged one year old as the mosque across the road trumpeted the call to prayer for what seemed like all night. Just like our first night in Guinea only nine months earlier I wondered if I was crazy to be brining my family here, to be doing this all over again. There have been many tough moments, many having to do with health, but as always God has been so incredibly faithful! We have used this first year to integrate ourselves in a local Senegalese church and improve our level of French. Becoming a new relevant person in a foreign culture is not easy! Yet we see the necessity if we are going to be ambassadors for Jesus Christ here in Senegal and know that it lays important foundations for the work that God has for us. We look forward to seeing what God has for us this coming year, trials and all!
Thank you so much for standing with us through prayer, encouragement and finances! We value and appreciate all of you. We will be visiting California and Canada this summer for two weddings, we hope to get the opportunity to see many of you!

Norm and Deb, I just wanted to say how encouraging it is for us back home to see you walking so faithfully and trusting God to direct and provide for your family! I try to remember and pray for you anytime the little things get to me. Not just because of the reasons they should never bother me, but it reminds me of your family and the daily challenges you face in living so far, in such a strange place.
I also pray for you when I miss my sister & her family. I know how close you are with your family and I remember how hard it was to live far away from any family when my son was small. I pray for you, but I pray with thanksgiving for me and for you all. I am in awe of the way God worked in my life and used the family distance to bring me closer to himself now, and then. Thank you for being such a light, and such encouraging witnesses to us all!
Wow – Emmaus is getting so big! That last picture of him in this post really shows it. I’m so looking forward to seeing you when you get back to the States :). Good luck w/ the post contest too!
I can’t believe how big my grandbaby boys are getting. And that it has been a year floors me. I am so thankful to God for internet and video chatting. So much has gone on this year! Not to even mention Guniea the year before WOW. What a trip God has had you on. Love you! Can’t wait to see you! Mom.
What a blessing it has been to watch you both be so faithful in following God’s desire for you to be in Africa. I love seeing the ways that God is using you in the lives of those around you. I can not wait to have you here in person to tell me more and more about what God is so evidently doing. Love you so so very much!!!

I LOVE how passionate you both are about following God’s adventure :) Can’t wait to see what He has in store!
