Penicillin Allergy

Our poor little Berea is allergic to penicillin. She was put on it for an ear infection and after 7 days she started getting some small spots on her tummy. By the time she went to bed she was starting to get spots on her face. I was a bit concerned thinking she was getting the chicken pox or some other skin rash sickness. Well by morning her whole belly button area was swollen and red. It was definitely looking more like hives. We were able to get her in to see the doctor that morning and he asked lots of questions to rule everything out. Turned out she is EXTREMELY allergic to penicillin. =( Poor girl! As the day went on her hives were not responding to Benadryl and was getting so bad one of her eyes was starting to swell shut. So I ended up taking her into the ER. They told me to up her dose of Benadryl to almost three times the amount listed on the bottle and sent us home. Sweet girl was so very miserable. She continued to get worse until the third day. On the fourth day she woke up looking much better. Her torso and face are healing, her legs, feet and arms are still pretty bad but I suspect they will be much better tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for her and for us. It is so hard to watch your children suffer. We did everything we could to make her comfortable and it has been so heartbreaking!
